President Agnelli took to the mic at the end of the match against Lyon, and while expressing his understandable disappointment at the elimination from the Champions League, he proudly remembers the ninth consecutive league title he has just won and has laid focus on next season’s challenge.
“The balance this year is bittersweet - underlines the President - It was a very difficult season, in which we obtained a great result with the ninth successive championship. Sarri went from the lowest categories to the top of Italy, and wrote a historical page in Italian football.
“Regarding the Champions League, it was a dream before, now it's an objective and going out like this is disappointing for us, for the players and for the fans. Juventus starts every year with many goals, and these must be honoured, because we have great players and the best player in Champions League history, Ronaldo, who is a pillar of Juventus.
“Now we will take a few days, we will make some overall assessments, in order to start the next season again with a renewed enthusiasm, all without taking for granted what happens in Italy: the championships are not won by inertia, they all have a different story and every year we all start with zero points.
“This year we have changed a lot, and this can lead to difficulties, but we have overcome them by winning the ninth consecutive championship. It is even hard to say "nine championships" in a row and we must be proud of this. A few days ago, I paid great compliments to Nedved, Paratici and Cherubini, and I reiterate my esteem for this management team that will continue to pursue our goals. Tonight, there is disappointment, because we are going out with an affordable opponent, but it must not be a game that makes judgments about a season.
