Our Juventus Men’s First Team learned their European opponents this season as the League Phase draw for the Champions League was made.
With eight teams to take on, there are a number of interesting statistics to have emerged from the draw, so let’s take a look at some of the standout stats.
UCL FACTS | THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT JUVENTUS’ OPPONENTS
- Real Madrid is the team Juventus have faced the most (22 times) across European competitions and the Club World Cup. It’s also the club against whom the Bianconeri have both won the most matches (nine) and lost the most (11).
- Juventus have lost three of their last four encounters (1W) against Real Madrid in European competitions and the Club World Cup, after going unbeaten in six of the previous seven (4W, 2D, 1L).
- Juventus have won 67% of their matches against Borussia Dortmund in European competitions - six out of nine games (1D, 2L) - including the last two, both in the Champions League.
- Among the teams faced more than twice in European competitions, Benfica are the side against whom Juventus have the highest loss percentage so far: 78%, with seven losses in nine matches (1W, 1D).
Juventus’ only win against the Portuguese side in these competitions dates back to March 1993: a 3-0 home victory in the second leg of the UEFA Cup quarter-finals. - Juventus haven’t won either of the two matches played against Villarreal in European competitions: a 1-1 draw away in the first leg and a 3-0 home loss in the return leg of the 2021/2022 Champions League Round of 16.
- Juventus are unbeaten in four matches against Sporting CP in European competitions, with two wins and two draws. The Bianconeri have never conceded more than one goal per match in this series.
- Bodo/Glimt are set to become the third Norwegian team that Juventus will have met in European competitions, after Kongsvinger and Rosenborg - teams Juventus have never lost to: four wins and four draws (six matches in the Champions League and two in the UEFA Cup).
- Pafos will be the third Cypriot team Juventus have taken on in European competitions, after Omonia Nicosia and Anorthosis Famagusta. Juventus have won all six meetings against these teams (four in the UEFA Cup and two in the European Cup), with an aggregate score of 25-3.
- Juventus have gone unbeaten in five of the six matches played against Monaco in European competitions (4W, 1D), winning the last two.
The only defeat came in a 3-2 away loss in the second leg of the 1997/1998 Champions League semi-finals.
