A defeat tonight for Juventus in an even and exciting encounter at the Stadio San Paolo. While the Bianconeri were unable to add to their points tally this evening and face an intriguing test to get their season up and running in earnest, Massimiliano Allegri remains confident that with hard work and patience, his side will discover their winning touch.

Speaking to the Sky cameras after the game, the Juve boss began: “It was a tight affair and credit must go to Napoli for playing a strong counter-attacking game and for making the most of our defensive mistakes, the goals were fine examples of both.”

Having edged the possession stakes and in seeming control of the encounter’s opening exchanges, the game turned in an instant as Gonzalo Higuain and Lorenzo Insigne combined to give the hosts the lead. For Allegri, it was a case of déjà vu from Wednesday’s draw with Frosinone as Juve’s opponents capitalised once more on key moments to swing the tie in their favour.

“In the first 25 minutes or so we were the better side and looked in control but once again the match turned suddenly on a fine bit of play from (Lorenzo) Insigne and (Gonzalo) Higuain. Napoli are a well-organised side and when you make mistakes against them you have to expect that they will punish you.

“But that’s football, a corner decided the game a few days ago and two misplaced passes in our own half decided the game tonight. We’re on a poor run but we mustn’t dwell on it, the important thing for us now is to get back to work and start winning football matches.”

As for the rest of the season, the Tuscan’s opinion remains unchanged: with 96 points still to play for, his side will still find themselves at the top end of the table come May.

“Where will we finish? I don’t see why we won’t still be in the top three or four or indeed challenge for the title. It’s up to us to turn things round and get back on the right track.”
