Massimiliano Allegri praised his players for their unwavering belief throughout a Serie A campaign that culminated with this evening’s 1-0 win over Sampdoria – a result that confirmed the club’s 33rd Scudetto success.

The boss was handed the tough task of maintaining and improving the momentum of a side that won three consecutive titles, and it was a test he and his men passed with flying colours.

Speaking to the media in Liguria, Allegri said: “We believed we could do it and were at the top from the very start. I came into an important dressing room and gradually we’ve worked together, doing an extraordinary job. Credit for this Scudetto win also goes to the lads, who worked their socks off from day one. We’re a great group.”

Now with the title race done and dusted, Allegri and his troops can focus their full attentions on their Champions League and Coppa Italia commitments.

These two hurdles begin with the Champions League semi-final first leg visit of Real Madrid on Tuesday night and the boss believes his men will be up for the challenge.

He concluded: “We have huge targets to reach and the season isn’t over yet. Today we won with a decent performance and that’s something that pleased me. But we’ve got plenty of desire to keep improving and now there’s the huge motivation of the Champions League.”
