The Juventus Women's First Team has qualified for the Italian Cup final after beating Fiorentina 2-1 at home in their semi-final second leg, with an aggregate score of 4-1 over two legs.

The Bianconere will be facing Roma in the final, who beat Inter in the other semi-final.

THE MATCH REPORT

The 2-0 lead from the first leg did not stop Juventus from starting the return fixture against Fiorentina with the right attitude. After seven minutes, Amalie Vangsgaard had a go, but her shot was deflected for a corner. The goal was only two minutes away, and it was once again Ana Capeta who found the net, curling a shot from outside the box which hit the inside of the post and went in.

In the 17th minute, it was Vangsgaard again who tested the defence, but her shot went wide after a brilliant piece of play by Capeta. After Madelen Janogy’s miss, which could have reignited the contest, the Bianconere came close through Estela Carbonell – a powerful strike from outside the box on the run, with Cecilie Fiskerstrand tipping the effort onto the crossbar – and then through Chiara Beccari, who came within a whisker of doubling the lead, only for Ilse van der Zanden to produce a superb block.

Shortly afterwards, Vangsgaard launched a counter-attack, set up perfectly by Beccari, but with the goal almost open, she hit Fiskerstrand. The ball simply refused to go in for the Danish striker, who, moments later from a corner, rose highest at the near post and struck the crossbar with a header.

In the second half, Fiorentina went in search of a moment that could get them back into the tie, but it was, once again, the ever-reliable Capeta who dashed the visitors’ hopes. A corner for the Bianconere in the 52nd minute saw Capeta break free from her marker at the near post, head the ball, and watch it nestle perfectly into the net at the near post.

It was a move that, just three minutes later, threw the Viola defence into disarray, forcing them to clear off the line as Lindsey Thomas fired over the bar from close range.

In the 64th minute, Iris Omarsdottir scored, turning the ball into the net from a corner after Katla Tryggvadottir had hit the post, making it 2-1.

In the final half-hour of play, Juventus managed to control the game, without risking compromising the result or their deserved qualification for the Women’s Italian Cup final.
