The Women’s First Team continued their strong start to the season on Saturday afternoon, beating Como Women 1-0 on Matchday 2 of the Serie A Women’s Cup.
Lea Khelifi got the game’s only goal in the first half, sealing the points for the Bianconere.
THE MATCH REPORT
It was a lively start in Biella on Saturday, with Como looking to impose themselves on the Bianconere from the first whistle. Nadine Nischler threatened first, but headed off target, and Larissa Rusek had to be alert moments later to deny the visitors’ second chance in quick succession.
The hosts reacted, and Annamaria Serturini was the driving force behind it. She drove forward to tee up Barbara Bonansea, but Astrid Gilardi was equal to the No.11’s effort.
Not long later, the opener came. Bonansea found Emma Stolen Godo this time, and she in turn set up Khelifi, whose effort was too good for Gilardi to get near and the Bianconere had their lead.
Como continued to push though and didn’t drop their heads, with Nischler still leading their charge. But the Bianconere managed things well, with Federica D’Auria making a vital intervention in the box.
The combination that opened the scoring reversed in the second half, with Khelifi feeding Stolen Godo, but the Norwegian sent her shot off target when trying to find goal.
Danique Noordman was dominant in the middle, and continued to frustrate the visitors, before Isaac Guerrero made a number of changes. One of those, Alba Redondo, went close to doubling the lead moments after her introduction but was denied by Gilardi.
Again, Stolen Godo had a chance on the end of an Eva Schatzer cross, but couldn’t convert.
Late on, with Como pressing even harder, D’Auria again and then a great save from Rusek managed to keep them out and seal the three points and extend the Bianconere's perfect start to their attempted Serie A Women's Cup defence.
