The Women’s First Team got back to winning ways in Serie A with a 2-1 victory away against Fiorentina on Monday night.

Alba Redondo opened the scoring in the first half with a calm finish inside the box, and Kysha Sylla doubled the lead early in the second half.

Fiorentina got a goal back at Viola Park in stoppage time through Emma Severini, but the points were in the bag for Isaac Guerrero’s side.

THE FIRST HALF

Fiorentina started the match aggressively and, after just one minute, Martina Rosucci made a crucial interception to cut out a low cross intended for Iris Omarsdottir. The home side tried to take the initiative, whilst Juventus grew into the game as the minutes passed, relying mainly on the bursts of pace from Matilde Pavan and Alba Redondo.

In the 16th minute, Larissa Rusek was called upon to save a dangerous shot/cross from Emma Severini, after which Juventus began to find more space in the opposition’s half. In the 27th minute, the Bianconere took the lead. Redondo started a solo run, played the ball to Julia Bartel in the box and, following a challenge between Bartel and Millaray Cortes, regained possession and beat Cecilie Fiskerstrand with a precise finish into the far corner. The goal was confirmed following a review by the Football Video Support.

Fiorentina tried to respond through Sofie Bredgaard, whose curling left-footed shot went just wide, but it was Redondo who had the best chance before half-time. In the 40th minute, the Spanish player failed to hit the target from a promising position. The teams went into the break with Juventus leading 1-0.

THE SECOND HALF

The second half began with Fiorentina looking to equalise, but it was Juventus who created the best chances. In the 51st minute, Pavan tried to catch Fiskerstrand off guard with a shot straight from midfield, but the Viola goalkeeper managed to save it. Shortly afterwards, Redondo, played in by Pavan herself, beat an opponent but failed to convert.

In the 56th minute, Juventus doubled their lead. Kysha Sylla drove forward down the wing, cut inside and unleashed a shot across goal which, thanks to a deflection off Ilse Van der Zanden, ended up past Fiskerstrand. It was a superb individual effort that made it 2–0.

Juventus continued to pose a threat and, in the 67th minute, came close to scoring a third, first through Pavan and then through Manaka Hayashi. Isaac Guerrero made changes from the bench, bringing on Martina Lenzini and Amaiur Sarriegi in place of Danique Noordman and Pavan, whilst Fiorentina tried to step up their attacking pressure.

In the closing stages, the Bianconere were also forced to do without Hayashi, who was replaced by Tatiana Pinto following a tough challenge. In the 89th minute, Remina Chiba and Annamaria Serturini came on for Redondo and Estela Carbonell, but the match was not yet over. In the 91st minute, Severini capitalised on a cross from Oda Johansen and pulled one back with a right-footed shot inside the box; the goal was confirmed following an FVS review.

In the closing minutes, Fiorentina pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Juventus held on to their lead until the final whistle and secured a 2-1 victory.
