Juventus have hosted Fiorentina in Turin only five times in the history of the Italian Cup. The Viola took the plaudits in the first meeting, in 1936, and the last, in 2015. In between the Lady won twice, while one tie was drawn. In the background photo, the meeting of two champions, Giampiero Boniperti in the black and white stripes and Miguel Montuori in the shirt of Fiorentina. The two would play together for Italy because although born in Argentina, Montuori was of Italian origin and opted to represent the Azzurri.

FINAL PASSAGE

A phase of Juventus-Fiorentina in 1959. The quarter-final was contested in a single one-off encounter, and the hosts prevailed 3-1 at the Comunale. On the Juventus score sheet were Giorgio Stivanello, John Charles and Bruno Nicolé. The victory was the precursor to the final act, victory over Inter.

MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL

The following year, Juventus-Fiorentina was played at San Siro with the trophy on the line. The Bianconeri arrived as recently crowned champions of Italy, and produced an encore that went down in history. The five-goal thriller opened when Charles broke the deadlock. Montuori and Da Costa put the Viola in front, before Charles struck again to take the match into extra time, when an own goal split the teams for the last time in favour of the Lady. Umberto Agnelli delivered the cup to Boniperti, the fourth in our history.

AWAY GOALS RULE

1997-98: Juve managed to cancel a two-goal deficit to draw the first leg in Florence. Considering the away-goal rule, a goalless draw at the Delle Alpi was sufficient for Juve to make it to the next round. In the photograph, Daniel Fonseca has an attempt on goal. The Uruguayan was deployed in attack with Filippo Inzaghi by Marcello Lippi. The coach would then swap the front two with Alex Del Piero and Marcelo Zalayeta. Not one of the four managed to make the breakthrough as the match finished 0-0 to Juve's satisfaction.

DEL PIERO'S RECORD

A thread connects Boniperti and Del Piero in the Coppa Italia when Juventus and Fiorentina clash. In the match of 10 January 2006, in addition to qualification, one of the themes of the match was to see if Alex was able to surpass the goal total of the man that had brought him to Juventus. Both had amassed 182 goals each, until the number 10 smashed home a hat-trick. Three months later, this time in Serie A, Del Piero scored again against Fiorentina, pictured as he celebrates with Patrick Vieira.

The photo of Juventus-Fiorentina from the 2014-15 season comes from the league match, won 3-2 by the Bianconeri. Previously, the 3 protagonists of the image were, in their own way, fundamental in the Coppa Italia showdown. Andrea Pirlo was absent, and his contribution was sorely missed. Although Fernando Llorente scored one of the best goals of his time at Juventus, Mohamed Salah burst on the scene to bag a brace. The Viola’s dreams of making it to the final were crushed in the second leg in Florence, where Juve triumphed 3-0.
