Gigi Buffon admitted it felt good to beat Napoli on their own patch and not concede after playing his part in Juve's 1-0 triumph over the league leaders on Friday night.

Maurizio Sarri's side were four points clear and unbeaten in the league going into the game, but Gonzalo Higuain's first-half strike and a solid defensive display saw the Bianconeri claim the spoils and reduce the gap at the top.

“It had been a while since I kept a clean sheet here – it feels good!” the skipper exclaimed after the final whistle.

“It was like a Champions League night, a really tough away trip. We'd have been happy with one of two results: a draw wouldn't have been bad either but three points are even better.

“We all deserve credit for the result. Our mentality and approach were spot on and we stayed tight as a unit. When we play as we did tonight it's tough for anyone to beat us.

“I'm proud of this team and this club. We've shown that when we have to come up with something special we're capable of producing the goods."

Former Napoli striker Higuain proved the difference once again after a hand injury had put his place in doubt prior to the match.

“It would have been a shame if we'd been without him for such an important game. Not only did he play, he went and grabbed the winner too.

“Playing against his former side doesn't affect him; he showed that last year in the cup when he scored two here.”

Victory moves Juve to within a point of the leaders but Buffon was quick to stress that it means little at this stage.

“If we play like that, we send out the message that Juve are in the mix and we're here to stay. Let's not get carried away just yet though: if Inter win on Sunday, we'll still be third, and I'm not going to celebrate third place.”
