Happy birthday, Trezeguet!

Today a true Bianconeri legend was born. David Trezeguet’s 171 strikes in 320 matches make him Juventus’ most prolific foreign marksman. His average of more than a goal every two games for an entire decade with the club confirmed his standing as one of the world’s all-time great forwards, whilst ensuring his iconic status in Turin, further reinforced by his role as Juventus Legends president.

Upon signing for the Bianconeri in the summer 2000, ‘Re David’ took little time in becoming a big hit in the black and white: his 24 league goals in 2001/02 (not to mention a further nine in the Champions League) made him Serie A’s top scorer that season. His strike in the final game famously helped to pave the way for dramatic last-day Scudetto celebrations away to today’s opponents Udinese.

Where Trezeguet was concerned, there would be no shortage of magical moments on the field: standing out in particular are his bicycle kick in the Champions League last-16 stage against Real Madrid and a stunning header against Milan in 2005, which helped to seal yet another Serie A title for the Old Lady in the process.

A scorer of great goals and a great scorer of goals, the affectionately nicknamed Trezegol emphatically ticked both boxes, his outstanding quality matched by a terrific tenacity that simply overwhelmed defence after defence across Italy and abroad.

Trezeguet’s ties to the Bianconeri, however, go far beyond his playing days: his role of Juventus Legends President has seen him represent the club in an ambassadorial capacity with great aplomb, whilst captaining Legends matches and, of course, scoring in them!

Everyone associated with Juventus wishes David many happy returns on his special day.
