The Women’s First Team are in UEFA Women’s Champions League action, taking on Austria Wien away from home.
Thursday’s match will begin at 18:45 CET, and coach Isaac Guerrero and Martina Rosucci previewed the action during a press conference.
ISAAC GUERRERO
“We’re expecting a team that presses hard and will really put us to the test in that regard. Austria Wien deserve their place in this Women’s Champions League, they’re performing very well. They’re a very physical side, playing at a high tempo, it’ll be a real challenge for us. It’s always a pleasure to play in a competition like this, I can see the girls are fired up and determined.
“It’s a great opportunity to be able to play straight away in Europe’s top competition at times like these. The last two matches have certainly hurt us, we’re wounded and aware of the responsibilities that come with wearing this shirt. We’ve been on this journey together with these girls, we’re on a path. We’ve been forging an identity over the past few months. We’ve rushed things a bit over the past few weeks, sometimes we need to make a few adjustments, perhaps by taking a step back. It’s certainly a situation we need to overcome, this is a talented squad.”
MARTINA ROSUCCI
“Every match is incredibly important, especially in this new format of the Women’s Champions League. It’s important to try to win every match, we know who we’re playing against and who we’ve played against. All the teams that have made it this far are of the very highest standard, these are all matches that will be decided by the finer details. We go through the tough times together, just as we celebrate the victories together. We’re working on the things we’re not doing well, without forgetting who we are, both as individuals and as a team.
“And we know who we are. Wearing the Juventus shirt is a big responsibility, it pushes you to give that little bit extra, but at times it can weigh heavily on you. What we’re doing is trying to have faith in ourselves, in everyone who’s part of this squad. We’re here to grow and learn from our mistakes. Austria Wien are a side who are very strong in one-on-one duels and very physical. The atmosphere will certainly be electric, tomorrow we’ll face a strong, well-organised side. We have our own identity, we’ll try to counter their pressing and we’ll certainly give it our all at every moment of the match. Playing in the Champions League is always magical.”
