The Men’s First Team picked up another three points in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night, beating AZ Alkmaar 2-1.
The match in the Netherlands saw Teun Koopmeiners and Randal Kolo Muani score, meaning Juve now have 10 points from their first four matches.
THE MATCH REPORT
The Bianconeri set the pace right from the start as, just five minutes in, the attack came to life when Nick Woltemade played a through ball to find Randal Kolo Muani’s run. His right-footed shot across goal grazed the post to the right of the home goalkeeper. In the ninth minute, Pape Matar Sarr tried his luck from distance, but his shot was deflected, sending the ball out for a corner.
Their dominance on the pitch paid off in the 19th minute. Kolo Muani lit up the attacking third with a superb turn, burst down the right flank and picked out Teun Koopmeiners in the box, who opened the scoring with a clinical, low left-footed finish. Luciano Spalletti’s side didn’t take their foot off the accelerator, managing possession and continuing to pose a threat. On the half-hour mark, Kerim Alajbegovic tried his luck with a right-footed shot from distance that whistled past the post by just a few centimetres.
The icing on the cake of a near-perfect first half came in the 37th minute. Kolo Muani tenaciously won the ball back, exchanged passes with Woltemade and then finished with a first-time left-footed strike, slotting the ball into the net. The first half ended with the Bianconeri leading 2–0.
The start of the second half followed the same pattern as the first. Jari De Busser inadvertently played the ball to Koopmeiners, who immediately laid it off to Alajbegovic. The young Bosnian found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper but was unable to get past him.
In the 65th minute, Federico Gatti posed a threat inside the opposition’s box, but the defender was denied as he went to shoot by a timely intervention from Wesley Hoedt. In the closing stages, the home side pulled one back to make it 2-1 through Mexx Meerdink, but that was the last flash of action in the match.
