A bitter loss for the Bianconere in their first away game of the season in the UEFA Women's Champions League. They were defeated in the 95th minute by a Schuller goal which was disputed and reviewed by VAR after the Juventus Women's defense appeared to clear the goal off the line. The goal still stood after the VAR checks, and the game finished 2-1 to Bayern. Canzi's team had managed to equalize in the first half after going behind earlier, thanks to a superb free kick from Eva Schatzer.
THE MATCH REPORT
Juventus Women had a challenging match in Germany, initially struggling to withstand Bayern's pressure, often pressing down the left flank and causing dangerous chances through Buhl. After a couple of shots from the edge of the area, the home side took the lead with Buhl's perfect cross to the near post, which Harder headed home.
Less than two minutes later, Bayern almost doubled their lead with a similar play through another header, this time from Taniwaka, who hit the crossbar. Juventus Women then found the strength to respond: in the 17th minute, Schatzer curled a left-footed shot from a free kick on the edge of the box which Bayern keeper Grohs couldn't get a hold of, making the match level at 1-1.
The equalizer restored morale and strength to the Bianconere, with the game becoming more equal, despite Bayern having more possession.
At the end of the first half, Bayern's Stanway found space on the edge of the box and fired off a shot that hit the crossbar of Peyraud-Magnin's goal, with the game remaining 1-1 at half-time.
The second half began with a big chance for the home team, who in the 51st minute managed to find space on the right for a cross into the middle of the box, but Buhl missed an open goal just inches away from the goal line.
The Bianconere managed to hold on for most of the second half despite not creating many chances, with coach Canzi drawing from the bench to try and inject life into Juventus Women.
The match's pace slowed in the second half, with Bayern Munich unable to increase the pressure on Juventus, but just when the draw seemed secured, Schuller's cross deflected into the Juventus goal in the 95th minute after Harder's initial touch. Juventus Women's defense appeared to have been able to prevent the ball from crossing the line, but VAR intervention confirmed the goal for the Germans and condemned Coach Canzi's team to a 2-1 defeat.
