Montemurro ahead of the Scudetto Phase: “We are ready”

On the eve of Juventus v Milan, coach Joe Montemurro kicked off a series of live interviews which will see him star on the official Juventus Twitch channel over the next few weeks. He answered lots of questions from fans and journalists who tuned in to the show. Here’s some of what he had to say.

FOCUSED ON THE SCUDETTO PHASE

“The team have been training well. We are ready for a big game tomorrow. We know that Milan have picked up six points against us, something which is quite unusual for us, but we are ready both physically and mentally. As for the last match, we must be more compact and play a higher defensive line so that we are ready to go and attack with courage.

“Roma deserved to be top of the league. It’s simple – they’ve picked up the most points. However, we have won our head-to-heads with them. There’s a gap between us in the league which we must be aware of and for this reason, they are the favourites, but it’s not over. There’s still a lot to play for and they are all tough matches.”

A NEW FORMAT

“The pool format is something new, an unusual kind of playoff where all the top sides face each other. The mental component will be fundamental because it’s completely different to the first part of the season. I understand the federation’s decision because this way, you get to see the best teams battle it out and it’s a great advert for women’s football. Inter are very good, Fiorentina are well organised, Milan have beaten us, Roma are top of the league: they are all challenging teams to face.”

THOUGHTS ON NILDEN

“I’m pleased that Amanda has decided to continue with the team. She has trained well this week and will be available tomorrow.”

MONTEMURRO’S BELIEF

“For me, it’s important to play well, to put on a show. We also need to have faith in ourselves, to have belief: we are Juve and we need to take this club to the heights it deserves, playing at a high level and with humility. We have players who have done really big things in their careers, and for them too, this phase is something new and exciting. All of them need to understand that from today, every single moment matters, and we’ll say that over and over again for the next eight weeks.”

UNITED TILL THE END

“I want to thank all the fans across the world for your messages: the players are proud to be Bianconere and they do it just for you, who always stand by us.”
