Alvaro Morata says the Bianconeri earned themselves an “important point” during a tough encounter as Cesena battled back to draw 2-2 during Sunday evening’s Serie A meeting at the Stadio Dino Manuzzi.

The Spaniard, who bagged his sixth league strike of the term during the first half in Emilia-Romagna, praised the 19th-placed Cavallucci Marini for the way they gave the reigning champions a good go throughout.

Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone after the final whistle, he began: “It was great to get on the scoresheet but when we don’t get all three points, the goal takes on a lesser significance. I always want to win.

“It was a tough game that we could have triumphed in but ultimately we drew and earned ourselves an important point.

“Cesena are a good outfit, a tough nut to crack on their own patch and it’s difficult to come away from here with a win. They know that playing on an artificial surface makes it challenging for any opponent that comes here. They played their football and it paid dividends for them.”

With the games starting to come thick and fast, particularly with a Champions League last 16 clash against Borussia Dortmund only around the corner, Morata said he and his team-mates will look to get tonight’s result out of their systems by starting with the visit of Atalanta on Friday.

He concluded: “We can’t dwell too much on tonight’s result and need to shift our focus to the next game."
