Alvaro Morata scored a brace against Dynamo Kiev to seal a 2-0 victory in the opening match of the UEFA Champions League group stage against Dynamo Kyiv. After a goalless first half, the Spanish striker scored on either end of the second half to stun the Ukrainians at the NSC Olimpiyskiy stadium.

FEW FIRST HALF CHANCES

The first chance of the game fell to the Bianconeri in the 12th minute, when Chiesa lead an attack down the left-hand side. He burst into the box, did a step over and fired towards goal, only to see Bushchan parry it away. Minutes later, a good chance fell to Chiellini at the near post when he headed a corner kick just wide of the target. That would be the last of the Skipper’s contribution as he had to be replaced by Demiral due to an injury. Cuadrado forced a save from the Dynamo goalkeeper, while a Ramsey-Kulusevski combination saw the Swede flick a backheel towards goal only for it to be pushed around the post.

MORATA BREAKS THE DEADLOCK

Juventus needed just 50 seconds into the second half to find the opening goal. Chiesa cut back, Ramsey backheeled to Kulusevski who was on the edge of the box. It was parried by Bushchan, but only as far as Morata who was poking around in front of goal and he directed the ball across the line.

MORE MORATA

Paulo Dybala made his first appearance of the season when he came on for Kulusevski in the 55th minute, but the game fell subject once again to a quiet rhythm with neither side creating chances. Sydorchuk’s effort from distance in the 75th minute sailed into the arms of Szczesny, while Arthur and Bernardeschi were introduced into the match with 11 minutes remaining. Four minutes later, Juventus wrapped up the victory after a swift attack down the right-hand side. Juan Cuadrado crossed in an excellent effort into the box, which met the onrushing Morata who made no mistake in nodding it into the back of the net.
