Outside of the top four places for most of the second half of the season, after the decision to reimpose the points deduction on Juventus, Milan are now in charge of their own destiny as regards claiming a Champions League berth.
The defending champions gave up their Serie A crown to Napoli but not before collecting an impressive 4-0 victory at the Diego Armando Maradono stadium - the biggest winning margin outside of San Siro for Stefano Pioli's side.
Let's catch up on the current form of the last side to visit the Allianz Stadium this campaign.
THE SEASON SO FAR
The Rossoneri trailed Napoli by just five points before the pause for the Qatar World Cup. A downturn in form - five defeats and two draws in a seven-match winless run in all competitions - after the resumption of domestic action pushed last season's Serie A winners out of contention in the league and saw them exit the Coppa Italia and lose the Supercoppa.
However, over the nine league games played since April, only Monza with 18 points have earned more than Milan's 16. Over the period under consideration the Rossoneri are the team that has conceded the fewest goals, six.
That said, Milan have not collected two league wins in a row since February and have taken home all three points from only one of their last nine away games in all competitions - that 4-0 thrashing of Napoli on 2 April - and have lost the most recent two, at Spezia in Serie A and at Inter in the return leg of the Champions League semi-final.
KEEP AN EYE ON...
Although Olivier Giroud took the applause with a hat-trick in last weekend's 5-1 victory over Sampdoria, it was Rafael Leão who got the ball rolling with the game's opener after nine minutes.
The Portuguese winger remains Milan's main goal threat, setting a personal best in the league of being actively involved in scoring 21 times this season, with 13 goals and eight assists.
Considering all competitions, he is the Milan player that has participated in the most matches (46, equal with Sandro Tonali) and taken part in the most goals, netting 14 and setting up 11, as well as attempting the most shots and completed the most take-ons.
