The Women’s First Team claimed a 1-1 draw with St. Polten in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League playoff, to seal a 4-1 aggregate win and book their place in the League Phase of the competition.
After the second leg in Biella, coach Isaac Guerrero and Danique Noordman spoke.
DANIQUE NOORDMAN
“I’m really happy to be playing for such an important club. The level here is obviously very high. On my first day I was a little nervous because I was in another country and in a completely new environment, but Danielle [de Jong], who like me is Dutch, has been helping me a lot, as have all of my other teammates. I’m very happy to be here.
“The most important thing is that we managed to get through over two legs, and I’m really proud of what we have done. We are playing so many games, and that doesn’t make things easy. We can definitely still improve, but as a team we’re very happy to have managed to progress.
“In the past I’ve also played in midfield and further forward, while this is quite a new role for me. We are now working with this new tactical setup with three defenders. At first it was a little difficult, but I really like it because I’m learning a lot, during training too.
“In the Champions League we’ll face big clubs, and I’m really excited about the prospect of playing in these matches. There are a lot of very strong teams, and my dream would be to face Barcelona. We know how strong they are, but nothing should change for us. We have to go onto the pitch trying to win against any opponent.”
