Juve got their hands on the Super Cup for the ninth time thanks to a deserved 2-0 victory over Napoli, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata grabbing the goals. The team’s desire to come out on top was evident from the first whistle and the focus shown throughout makes the success even sweeter. Here’s all the reaction.

CRISTIANO RONALDO

“It was a tough game and the pitch was difficult, but the team stayed focused and we’ve won an important trophy which will give us a confidence boost. We’re very pleased. Now we must use that to win our upcoming fixtures. As for the Scudetto, it’ll be a difficult race, but we’ll be in it.”

ANDREA PIRLO

“It’s a very happy moment and lifting my first trophy as a coach makes it even better. It was important to get back to winning ways after the defeat by Inter. We had to showcase our pride and when you take to the pitch with that determination, you can do well. We needed this sort of team performance in which the players really dug in. [Juan] Cuadrado worked hard at home and coped well until the 95th minute. I must congratulate him because not everyone could be out for two weeks and then produce a display like that in a final. Arthur has had to settle in, then he was out injured, but he’s shown what he can do tonight. He’s a key player who offers us so much quality.”

GIORGIO CHIELLINI

“It meant so much to us, first of all because a trophy was on the line and we didn’t want to let it get away, even more so after the defeat on Sunday. You try to isolate these moments as much as possible, but we were hurt by the defeat and have heard so many write us off too early, which has really fired us up and made us even more united. We put in a top performance. We controlled the game, did well and were also a bit lucky, but we deserved the victory and can enjoy winning this trophy, which has to be a starting point because we still have so much to achieve. We’re all giving everything. Winning a trophy for the tenth year in a row is something to be proud of and we want to keep winning and improving. There’s a great mix. When we’re all together, we always manage to produce something special. We showed togetherness in every area of the pitch, which is the secret to our balance and fine display. We’re pleased and will enjoy this trophy success with our fans, albeit from a distance. It was the first final for so many of the lads and the joy on their faces is quite something.”
