Luca Clemenza struck a brilliant brace to seal a 2-1 victory against Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday afternoon to get Fabio Grosso’s men up and running in their Youth League campaign.

It was a deserved win for the Bianconeri, who managed a total 20 shots on goal over the course of an exciting 90 minutes of football at the Stadio Silvio Piola in Vercelli.

Clemenza it was who opened the scoring for the hosts in the 38th minute, benefitting from Francesco Cassata’s layoff to fire past Borussia keeper Moritz Nicolas.

The visitors responded strongly to going behind, however, and they would draw level just three minutes after the break, prolific striker Dennis Eckert netting his tenth of the season.

Both sides created chances to take home maximum points during a pulsating second period, but Clemenza popped up with the winner in the 90th minute to hand Grosso’s men a maiden victory in this year’s Youth League.

Speaking after the final whistle, Fabio Grosso poured praise on a fine performance and result that lifts his team above Borussia into third place in Group D.

“It’s a wonderful win. We’ve not received our just rewards from previous matches in the competition. Today we came out of the traps quickly and the boys did well not to let their heads drop after conceding the equaliser.

“I’m delighted with how we took the game to our opponents. We’re still alive and kicking in the Youth League and we’ll give everything we’ve got to go as far as we possibly can.”

Juventus’ fourth group fixture sees them look for a second successive victory against the same opposition when they travel to Monchengladbach in just under two weeks’ time.
