As many as six Bianconeri are in the reckoning for this year’s World11 accolade following today’s release of the first shortlist by FIFPro, the international federation for professional footballers, to help decide the strongest starting XI made up of current players across the globe.
Gianluigi Buffon, an ever-present at this stage of the selection process since its first edition in 2005, is joined by Juventus team-mates Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Dani Alves, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain, ensuring that the Old Lady has a very healthy representation among the total of 55 players to have made it this far.
Voting on behalf of FIFPro are 50,000 professional footballers spread across 70 different countries. The final XI, which will consist of one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards, will be announced in January.
