The Juventus Men’s First Team attention is back on Serie A matters, and Serie A Matchday 15 takes them to Emilia-Romagna to face Bologna. Kick-off is fixed for Sunday, 14 December, at 20:45 CET.
Ahead of the trip, Coach Luciano Spalletti was put through his usual pre-match press duties.
Here’s what he had to say:
ON JOHN ELKANN’S WORDS
“It’s good to hear these words from John Elkann and the family, to hear their words, commitment, and their passion. It’s up to us to honour the past on the pitch and to work to build a better future.
"Now and then he sends me his thoughts. In today’s message, he looks to the future, which is something that we must have on our minds too. When you’re part of a club of this level, your goal is always the highest possible.”
FOCUSING ON BOLOGNA
“Before anything else, I want to compliment Bologna, as a team and a club, for the quality they’re showing. On the field, they’re a side that look to impose their game on their opponents, and they’re not afraid of anything. They direct you into the spaces they want you to go to. You have to overcome this to give them problems, we have to be stronger and more skilled than they are if we want to avoid a complicated evening.
“Personality is key in football. In the past, it was those who took risks who had it, but now it means accepting the game across the whole pitch, taking the challenge where it suits us best. We need to be more consistent in being able to do that and to attack the space for the entire game. To play a really high-level match, you really need to be on it for 90 minutes.
“Do I see some of myself in [Bologna coach Vincenzo] Italiano? I’ve 40 years on him, so I’ll take that [laughs]. He’s a very good coach, one of the best we have in Italy. I’ve advised a lot of clubs to hire him, I’m a fan of his work.”
THE COLLECTIVE AND THE INDIVIDUALS
“Nobody will convince me that these aren’t good players. On the contrary - I am convinced we will overcome these limitations. I accepted the job not because I believe in it, I’ve been doing this job for years, I know it’s not easy, and I’m obsessed with the idea of being able to change and improve this group. I see a group of guys who are hungry and at my disposal, and that’s why I always speak with them to find solutions.
“[Daniele] Rugani could return tomorrow, albeit in a limited capacity and not for 90 minutes. [Gleison] Bremer, given the seriousness of his injury, still needs a little more time and we want to be cautious with him
“Chico [Conceicao]’s development needs to lead to him being more incisive, to find more goals and those assists. He has a lethal spark and he knows he needs to grow in every aspect, but he always shows the right attitude and that’s how we know we’re on the right path.”
