SUPERWOMEN indeed! Juventus Women have won their second Italian Super Cup after beating Fiorentina 2-0 in today’s final in Chiavari, thanks to a Barbara Bonansea brace!

The Bianconere began in a very proactive fashion, with the first real chance coming after around 15 minutes of play, as the lively Lina Hurtig caused problem’s down the Viola’s right-hand side, putting in a very dangerous ball into the box that the defence struggled to clear.

Juve’s early dominance began to tell, with them creating a flurry of chances, first through Hurtig once more, with the Swede going extremely close to opening the scoring, as her shot on goal from Barbara Bonansea’s header was just kept out by the fingertips of Katja Schroffenegger.

Cristiana Girelli was next to text the Fiorentina goal from close range, but once again Schroffenegger just denied the Bianconere their breakthrough. Once more Fiorentina’s keeper came to their rescue, as captain, Sara Gama saw her header just clawed away.

Eventually the pressure told and Juve got their breakthrough five minutes before half-time, Bonansea went on a dazzling dribble before firing low into the corner from just outside the box to give Juve a more than deserved lead going into the break!

Rita Guarino’s girls started the second half as they closed the first, with two early chances coming from Bonansea and Girelli. It was to be a warning of things to come, as on 55 minutes, Bonansea doubled the Bianconere’s lead with a great strike on the volley after a Fiorentina clearance fell perfectly to her.

With an hour on the clock, Fiorentina tried to find a way back into the game and Valery Vigilucci gave them a chance with a good header on a cross but Laura Giuliani was able to save. Juve turned the momentum back in their favour once again and a brilliant strike from Lisa Boattin crashed against the crossbar!

The game concluded much as it had been throughout the 90 minutes, with Juve dominant and creating chances at will, with Aurora Galli going closest to making it three in stoppage time, but once again Schroffenegger was able to deny.

2-0 it finished, although it could have been more, as a double from Bonansea, secured a second Italian Super Cup for Juventus Women!
