Ahead of the Women's First Team's home fixture against Roma, scheduled for Saturday, 23 October at 18:30 CEST, coach Isaac Guerrero reflected on the Bianconere's current form and looked ahead to the upcoming Serie A Women encounter.
ANALYSING PERFORMANCES AND TEAM IDENTITY
"We are a team that understands and accepts the risks that come with spending so much time in the opposition's half. It's not just about defending transitions to limit our opponents' counter-attacks, but also about improving our ability to maintain control in the opposition's half. We need to organise ourselves in possession not only to attack, but also to be prepared for the possibility of losing the ball.
"After the match against Como, our analysis with the team began by recognising all the positive aspects of our performance. We had plenty of shots on goal, consistently occupied attacking areas and recorded a higher expected goals (xG) figure than our opponents. Despite all that, our aim remains to keep improving without losing the identity we have built."
SQUAD STRENGTH AND CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT
"The players have shown great responsibility, energy and awareness since returning to training this week. This squad combines tremendous talent with a strong contingent of young players and several new arrivals, all of whom have shown extraordinary commitment to the project.
"Last weekend's match does not erase all the excellent work we have done so far. This team has shown that it can compete at the highest level, whether by qualifying for the League Phase, winning in Gothenburg or coming from behind against Roma in the Women's Cup. It is the same team that is now going through a period in which results are not reflecting what we are producing on the pitch. That is part of the process.
"These are all aspects of a learning curve that is never straightforward, but one that is essential to achieving our ultimate goal: building a winning team with a clear identity, capable of competing at the highest level both now and in the future."
LOOKING AHEAD TO ROMA
"Facing Roma at this particular stage of the season represents a good opportunity and an incentive to raise the bar even further. Our priority remains focusing on our own strengths and the areas in which we can improve, while being fully aware of the quality of opponents of this calibre, whom we have already faced recently.
"It will be a difficult match, but taking on teams of this level is the ideal test to demonstrate our progress and the ambition within the squad."
