France have been eliminated from the Women's World Cup at the quarter-final stage after a dramatic penalty shootout against co-hosts Australia on Saturday.

The game went all the way to penalties after a hard-fought 120 minutes, with both sides having their chances to win the game in regular time and then in the additional 30 minutes.

Our Pauline Peyraud-Magnin played from the start for France, and was taken off just before the end of the 120 minutes, meaning she was not in goal for the penalty shootout.

Australia went on to win 7-6 on penalties.
