Italy’s Confederations Cup adventure will draw to a close with this evening’s third-place playoff encounter against Uruguay.

After stumbling at the penultimate hurdle in a nail-biting semi-final penalty shootout with reigning World and European champions Spain on Thursday night, the Azzurri will aim to bow out in style by seeing off Óscar Tabárez’s men in Salvador.

Uruguay, who narrowly missed out on a place in the final following Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Brazil, are expected to include Juventus defender Martin Caceres in their starting line-up.

It is thought that Cesare Prandelli will make wholesale changes for his team’s final encounter and grant several Bianconeri a rest following a long domestic and European campaign.

Andrea Barzagli and Andrea Pirlo are both confirmed absentees, Claudio Marchisio remains a doubt while Giorgio Chiellini could be named among the substitutes.

Kick-off at the Arena Fonte Nova is scheduled for 6pm (CET).
