Model professional Marco Storari again provided a reliable presence between the posts when deputising for Gigi Buffon in six Serie A games this season.

Playing second fiddle to the world’s best goalkeeper means the Pisa-born shotstopper is often forced to wait for his opportunity to shine. But his commendable dedication and professional approach during training ensure he is always ready to don the gloves when called upon.

His reliability was confirmed by Antonio Conte ahead of this season’s game against Pescara: “Buffon hasn’t been able to train well due to an attack of the flu, so Storari will start in goal. If I didn’t have a backup keeper like him, I would ask Gigi to play, but Marco is a safe pair of hands.”

With a total of 530 championship minutes under his belt, Marco exhibited his full range of qualities every time he took to the field.

One such attribute is maturity, which doesn’t just make him a formidable performer, but also an important and popular figure in the dressing room.
