After a busy week of international fixtures, Manchester City, the Bianconeri’s first Champions League opponents on Tuesday night, go into their trip to Crystal Palace hoping to pick up where they left off two weeks ago, by registering a fifth league win on the bounce.
Meanwhile, Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach will be looking to kick-start their campaigns in earnest as they both go in search of their first three points of the campaign this evening.
Manchester City
After four straight victories without conceding a goal, Manuel Pellegrini’s men are already the team to beat in the Barclays Premier League.
Standing in their way on Saturday afternoon are a Crystal Palace side entering tomorrow’s game in good spirits having beaten Chelsea last time out. After a strong start to the new term, the Eagles can join the Citizens at the top of the table on 12 points with a win.
As well as being a meeting between the division’s two form sides, Saturday’s game could also see the return to English football of ex-Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, a late acquisition from Wolfsburg in the summer transfer window.
The Belgian will be looking to carry over his good international form into the domestic arena, following a goal and an assist in his country’s 3-1 win over Bosnia last Thursday.
Sevilla
After a draw with Malaga (0-0) and a defeat to Atletico Madrid (0-3) from their opening two fixtures, the Andalusians face Levante tonight at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia with their first victory of the campaign firmly on the agenda.
Sevilla boss Unai Emery will be looking for strong performances from his international stars such as Yevhen Konoplyanka (Ukraine), Benoit Tremoulinas (France) and Grzegorz Krychowiak (Poland) who all featured prominently for their respective countries in friendlies and European qualifying during the week.
Borussia Monchengladbach
The Bianconeri’s German Champions League rivals are also in action tonight and they too are seeking their opening success of the campaign.
On the back of defeats at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, Mainz and Werder Bremen, last season’s third placed side host Hamburg at Borussia Park hoping to build some momentum before they face Sevilla in Spain at the same time as Juventus take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
