Argentina progressed to the Copa America quarter-finals as Group B winners after they overcame Jamaica 1-0 on Saturday evening.
Following Uruguay and Paraguay’s 1-1 draw earlier on in the day, La Albiceleste knew a victory at the Estadio Sausalito would see them qualify for the knockout phase top of the standings.
And the success was sealed on 11 minutes when Gonzalo Higuain fired home from inside the box to sink Jamaica.
Bianconeri duo Roberto Pereyra and Carlos Tevez entered the field of play for Javier Pastore and Higuain respectively during a second half which saw Angel Di Maria almost put the result beyond any doubt when he hit the crossbar.
Due to all of Group C’s sides Brazil, Peru, Venezuela and Colombia currently sitting on three points, Argentina will have to wait until the end of this evening’s action to find out who they will be playing in the quarter-finals.
Gerardo Martino’s men are pencilled in to face the pool’s third-placed team in Vina del Mar on Friday.
