Napoli manager Rafael Benitez says the importance of tomorrow’s game will not be lost on his players when they take to the field for the Super Cup final with Juventus in Doha.

While twelve points separate the two teams in the league, the Spanish coach is backing his men to bridge the gap by showing the right desire, mentality and intensity against the reigning champions on Qatari soil.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference in Qatar, Benitez said: “Tomorrow’s game will be an important for us, the club and all the fans. We want to win. Juventus are ahead of us in the league but the things that count in a one-off game are the desire to win, mentality and intensity.”

“The players know what this means to our fans. We’re focused solely on this game and this game only. We respect our opponents but are aware of our own strength and want to win. In a final there’s no real need to motivate the players a great deal, the occasion does that itself.”

Sat alongside the former Liverpool boss was midfielder Christian Maggio, a player who suffered the disappointment of defeat when the teams last met in the same competition over two years ago.

The Azzurri international said: “I don’t want to think about Beijing, I’m purely focused on tomorrow’s game and treating our fans to this trophy. Who would I take away from Juventus? It’s difficult because they’re all decisive players, but I’d perhaps go for Buffon.”
