Giorgio Chiellini believes the Bianconeri were good value for tonight’s Champions League quarter-final first leg win over Monaco after riding out an initially uncomfortable opening to the game at Juventus Stadium.
The defender says he and his team-mates should have done more during the first 20 minutes to thwart the dangers posed by the Ligue 1 outfit on the counter, but expressed his satisfaction at the way Juventus swung proceedings back in the desired direction.
Speaking to the media after the game, Chiellini began: “Our initial approach was wrong, allowing them to come at us on the counter, but then we got things back on track. Monaco are a side who defend deep and then break on the counter. After a tough first 20 minutes, we then got into our stride and deserved tonight’s win.”
Concluding with a thought on this evening’s match-winner Arturo Vidal, the 30-year-old conveyed his belief that the Chilean midfielder is now fully in the groove: “Arturo’s been back playing at his high levels for a number of games now.”
