Alvaro Morata was beaming after hearing Gianluigi Buffon call him a star of the future following tonight’s incredible performance: "Gigi’s words are a great honour, he’s a legend to me. When we played against each other last year in the Champions League, I ran after him to get his shirt."
On the match itself, Morata said: "I’m delighted and would like to thank the fans, who were here in their droves. We’ll do everything to lift the cup."
Having decided the tie with a goal in either leg, Morata’s focus has now shifted to the final in Berlin: "It’ll be a tough match, but we can do it together.
"I grew up here in Madrid so I was never going to celebrate against Real. I heard the odd whistle when I left the field and that made me feel bad. I was just doing my job."
