Carlos Tevez says Juventus have made a positive start to pre-season and insists the team are determined to maintain their Serie A supremacy in spite of the fierce competition for title glory.

The 30-year-old, who notched an impressive 19 league goals during a prolific first season in Turin, conceded that preserving the Bianconeri’s lofty domestic perch becomes harder with every trophy won – but brushed off suggestions of Antonio Conte’s departure representing a severe dent to their title aspirations.

Speaking to the media in Vinovo, Tevez began: “Winning four in a row is tough. We’re the same group and need to demonstrate that we’re the ones who achieved three consecutive titles. Of course, it was sad for me to see Conte go, but we’re working well in pre-season under Allegri and that’s the most important thing.”

In the aftermath of Conte’s exit, certain sections of the media suggested that Tevez was keen to clarify his position in a meeting with the club’s hierarchy.

These suggestions were firmly denied by the Argentine frontman, who was quick to set the record straight.

“I never spoke to Marotta. I’m a player and Agnelli, Marotta and Paratici don’t need to ask for my point of view on these matters. I think the papers should have greater respect when they write these things. Those who do only want to harm Juventus. Leaving the club has never entered my head. I’ve got a three-year contract and I want to see it out here.”

With the media now proclaiming Roma and Napoli as favourites for this year’s Scudetto title, Tevez believes that Juve, reinforced by the recent arrivals of Alvaro Morata and Patrice Evra, will relish the challenge of proving any doubters wrong.

“It’s better that way. Then we’ll see what happens on the pitch. Let’s not forget that we are the reigning champions. We’re working well and ready to tackle both Serie A and the Champions League.”

The Argentine was in jovial mood whilst giving his thoughts on his own personal progress during pre-season, concluding: “I’m feeling good, even though I’m now eight kg heavier [laughs]. I’m fresh and ready for the new campaign and can’t wait to link up with the rest of my team-mates again.”
