Manuel Pellegrini says he and his Manchester City team will be on their guard when lining up against Juventus tomorrow night in Turin, citing a firm grip on possession as the key to keeping the Bianconeri quiet in their own backyard.

Just one point separates both sides at the top of Group D and with a win putting the hosts firmly in the driving seat for top spot, the Chilean boss is keen for his charges to avoid conceding any ground in the race for first place.

Speaking to the media in Turin, he began: “Juventus are a team with very skilful players. We know all about them and they’re also up to speed on us.

“Tomorrow we must control possession and be the best team out there. It’s crucial we avoid defeat, even though we’re aware that our hosts also want to finish top of the group.”

While the Bianconeri go into the game bolstered by a third successive Serie A in against Milan on Saturday, the Citizens will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of a home defeat to Liverpool at the first time of asking.

In order to achieve this, Pellegrini is calling on his men to dust themselves down and focus solely on their upcoming fixtures.

“We performed badly on Saturday, but tomorrow we want to start playing at our usual levels. This is why we need to put the Liverpool game to one side and focus exclusively on the future.”
