Following on from last Sunday’s energetic display en route to beating Palermo, the Bianconeri put in another hard shift with plenty of running both on and off the ball in Friday night’s away win against Lazio.

The performance, especially during a first half in which Massimiliano Allegri’s men provided a greater forward threat and established a 2-0 lead by the 32nd minute, attracted praise from the manager after the final whistle.

Speaking to the media, Allegri began: “The players beat an excellent outfit tonight. It wasn’t easy, especially when you expend plenty of physical and mental energy, as we did before the break by pressing very hard.

“I was pleased with how compact we were. Sometimes you have less possession, but it’s important to stay solid. We could have played better after the interval, but the result is what matters. Now we’re focused on Tuesday night in Sevilla, as we want to finish top of our Champions League group.”

Asked whether the switch back to a 3-5-2 was the reason for Juventus’ continued upturn in fortunes, the Tuscan tactician commented: “The formation suits our qualities right now, but also allows for variations in our play, especially regarding who is deployed on the flanks.

“Then, when the injured players return, we’ll look at other systems, because it’s important to be able to change things up during a game in order to keep the opposition guessing.”

Wrapping up the interview, Allegri stressed that his team were fully concentrated on their own affairs, outlining areas for potential improvement as they look to continue their rise up the Serie A table.

“We need to make sure that we’re moving with fluidity and playing to a good technical level. The season is long and we also have the cups, which are important to us.

“Our discipline and strong physical state will allow us to keep playing this way. We’re focused only on ourselves and our objective of regaining ground on our rivals.”
