As of Thursday 19 November, Juventus is making its mark also in Guatemala City, where club legend Mauro German Camoranesi headed the opening of the country’s first Bianconeri soccer school, which, run in cooperation with Global Sports Corporation, will give over 100 children the opportunity to play and relish the game of football.

Speaking at the opening event at the Club Italia of Guatemala City, the former winger said: “I’m honoured to have been asked to come here and represent Juventus at this official Academy launch.”

All aspects of the new Academy fall in line with the standards set by the Bianconeri in its various soccer schools in Italy and across the world: the children train with the same objectives and values in mind.

“The opening of this project represents an important step forward in developing the footballing and, more generally, sporting culture in the country,” said Christopher Prentice, the British Ambassador to Italy who is overseeing the initiative.

During his stay in Guatemala, Camoranesi also paid a visit to Fundaninos children’s home, where he shared his experience as a Juventus player to 50 youngsters up to the age of 17 and took to the pitch for a brief game of football.

The Academy in Guatemala City reinforces Juventus’ presence in South America after already running a school in Peru and numerous activities in Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Paraguay.
