Juventus’ Primavera got their new season up and running with a convincing 3-0 win over Modena on Saturday afternoon in front of their home supporters.

A goal from captain Filippo Romagna and a brace from Nicolò Pozzebon in the second half earned Fabio Grosso’s men a victory that was well-deserved and rewarded all of their hard work during pre-season.

The Bianconeri started the livelier of the two sides and almost took the lead in the opening 15 minutes, with Francesco Cassata’s effort rebounding off the crossbar.

Modena, often looking to hit their opponents on the counter-attack, were well-organised and defended resolutely to keep the scores level during the first period.

After the break the home side would strike the bar again, this time courtesy of Giulio Parodi meeting a corner kick.

But Grosso’s men would eventually break the deadlock in the 67th minute through Romagna’s header, with summer arrival Guido Vadalà providing the assist.

As Modena chased an equaliser, the game opened up and the Bianconeri were quick to exploit the spaces by doubling their lead just three minutes later.

Pozzebon it was to turn in his first of the afternoon following excellent build-up work by Grigoris Kastanos. And in the 90th minute the forward would fire in his second and the side’s third of the encounter to put the points beyond doubt.

“It wasn’t easy today, but we approached the match the right attititude,” said Grosso at the final whistle. “Everyone had a good game, both individually and collectively. We can achieve great things by playing in this manner.”

On Tuesday the Primavera kick off their Youth League campaign, but they will be without Roman Macek and Luca Clemenza for the trip to Manchester City.

“We’ll look to give them a good game with all the players at our disposal, fully aware of the task at hand in facing one of last season’s top teams in the competition,” said technical coordinator Stefano Baldini.

After returning home from England, Grosso’s men have just four days until a much-anticipated derby against Torino, with kick-off scheduled for 13.00 CEST on Saturday 19 September.
