Rome’s Stadio Olimpico will long be remembered as a happy hunting ground for Pavel Nedved and it is fitting that the Bianconeri great celebrates his 43rd birthday on the same day that Massimiliano Allegri’s men visit that very stadium for the second Serie A match of 2015/16.
The former Czech international and current club director at Juventus began his illustrious career in Italy’s top flight playing regularly in the capital’s main sports arena for Lazio, before a move to Turin saw him star in further unforgettable displays there wearing the black and white.
Nedved scored three goals for the Old Lady against Roma, all of which in fixtures at the Stadio Olimpico, each one a spectacular strike, contributing to seven out of a possible nine points for the visitors.
A 2-2 draw in December 2002 saw the midfielder grab a late equaliser courtesy of a fine finish on his favoured left foot. He would net another two in a pair of 4-1 victories in November 2005 and March 2009 respectively, the first a headed opener, the latter a perfectly struck first-time volley from outside the box.
On a day in which the Bianconeri also celebrate the marvellous performances of a true legend of the game, everyone associated with Juventus Football Club wishes Pavel many happy returns.
