Giorgio Chiellini has revealed that Juventus were determined to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat to AC Milan with a champions’ performance against Sampdoria on Wednesday.

“We wanted to send out a message,” said the Italian defender after scoring twice in Juventus’ 4-1 win over Sampdoria. “The key was to put Saturday behind us and start again. I’m delighted to get the goals too.”

The win confirms the Bianconeri’s position at the top of the table after ten games, but Chiellini stressed that Juve wouldn’t be resting on their laurels any time soon.

“We want to keep developing, keep getting better and keep winning,” he insisted. “Only a fool would think the league was already won after just ten games. We’re never satisfied as a team and our performance proved that tonight, as individuals and as a group. The forwards, for example, showed their quality and worked really hard.”

Next up for Juve is a home match against last year’s runners-up Napoli.

“Juve v Napoli will be an important game but you have to keep a cool head whoever you’re playing, as we’ve always done. We can still gel even more, but we have the desire and determination,” explained Chiellini.
