Juve vs. Lazio: seventh (goal) heaven

Juventus and Lazio have already faced off three times this season across Serie A, Coppa Italia and Super Cup and each of those meetings was indicative of what often happens when these two clubs meet.

Most importantly, the Bianconeri normally emerge victorious, winning 75 of their 143 league encounters with the Biancocelesti, 45 of which came on home soil in Turin.

The currency of the game however is goals and traditionally this is a fixture that produces plenty of them for Juve, 157 in total at either the Stadio Comunale, the Delle Alpi, the Stadio Olimpico and Juventus Stadium at a rate of more than two a match.

In short, Juve win and do so in spectacular fashion, as our selection of the top seven strikes to hit the Lazio net will adequately demonstrate:

1967: ZIGONI

01.06.1967 - Counting forwards chronogically this poacher's effort from Gianfranco Zigoni would of course come first anyway but those clued up on their Bianconeri history will know just how important it was at the time.

Zigoni's close-range header would hand the Old Lady not only a 2-0 lead against Lazio, who would later pull a goal back through Claudio Di Pucchio, but also ultimately a 13th Scudetto crown.

While title number 34 may not be mathematically achievable on Wednesday night, we hope you'll agree this is the perfect place from which to start given the circumstances 49 years on.

1973: CUCCUREDDU

28.10.1973 - Classic strike number two comes from Antonello Cuccureddu whose rising drive from the edge of the penalty area was enough to seal the points in 1973's home encounter with the Biancocelesti.

In fact, Antonello's firm finish rounded off an impressive comeback for the hosts who had fallen behind early on only to recover to triumph by three goals to one.

1989: DE AGOSTINI

11.06.1989 - Perhaps technically the pick of the bunch, Luigi Di Agostini's inch-perfect half-volley also came in one of the most pulsating Juve-Lazio affairs in recent times.

One touch to control, one touch to nearly rip the goalframe from its foundations, an emphatic finish to hand Juve the lead for the first time having twice trailed on the day.

Renato Buso's strike would make the points safe minutes later.

Full-time: Juventus 4-2 Lazio.

1994 - VIALLI

17.04.1994 - A tennis score at the Delle Alpi in 1994's resounding 6-1 thrashing orchestrated by none other than ex-Lazio striker Gianluca Vialli.

While the previous three Juve goals had a touch fortune about them, Vialli's effort to make it 4-1 was pure class from the prolific forward.

Capitalising on Luca Marchegiani's misjudged rush from goal, the hat-trick hero seemingly had the ball on a string as he pounced, swivelled and arched the ball perfectly into the unguarded Biancocelesti net to restore the Bianconeri's three-goal advantage and score his second of the afternoon.

A third followed for Vialli as Dino Zoff's men romped hom to victory. Game, set and match!

2008: CHIELLINI

27.04.2008 - A Giorgio Chiellini double is reason enough to remember 2008's encounter between Wednesday's competitors even before considering the quality of Giorgione's deft near-post header, worthy of recognition in itself.

The strike above was the big man's first of the day and one that would set his team up for another seven-goal beating of Lazio, 5-2 the final count on that occasion.

2013: TEVEZ

31.08.2013 - While Carlos Tevez was adored for his relentless running and ruthlessly tenacious style, the Bianconeri's two-time leading scorer also had the quality to make things look ever so easy.

Take his 80th-minute effort in 2013's 4-1 victory for example; a simple shuffle and a pass into the far corner. Classic Carlos.

2015: BONUCCI

18.04.2015 - Leonardo Bonucci knows his way around both penalty areas and like defensive colleague Chiellini, has the finishing abilities to pull off the best of centre-forward impressions.

A few months after netting an unforgettable screamer against Roma, Leo was at it again to see off the capital's other top-flight club, coolly slotting home from close range to hand his team a 2-0 lead on 28 minutes.

Almost a year on, a repeat result on Wednesday night would be the perfect conclusion to one of the most important Juve-Lazio encounters of the lot.
