Andrea Agnelli today took the opportunity to reflect on a sensational 2015/16 season for the Bianconeri before looking ahead to what promises to be an exciting future for staff and supporters alike.

Speaking at this afternoon’s press conference to announce the extension of Gianluigi Buffon and Andrea Barzagli's contracts until June 2018, the club president outlined his hopes for the future and praised two men whose consistently sensational performances have played a huge part in the conquest of a fifth consecutive Scudetto title.

Here is a selection of his quotes:

Scudetto pride

“I would like to express, both personally and on behalf of Juventus, immense pride and satisfaction at our fifth consecutive Scudetto, a feat that has enabled us to rewrite the history of Italian football. I feel we’ll only ever be truly aware of what we’ve achieved in 10 to 15 years’ time.

“As it stands we don’t want to fully come to terms with our triumphs because we are absolutely focused on our next targets. Anyone joining Juventus knows that the most important goal isn’t the one that’s just been achieved, it’s the next one.”

European dreams

“Our Champions League exit was a bittersweet feeling, because our performance against Bayern Munich confirmed that we’re now part of Europe’s top table, having stood toe-to-toe with Barcelona last year and Bayern this year. The main aim for next season needs to be the defence of our title, but we also know we’ve definitely got what it takes to dream as far as Europe is concerned.”

Upcoming goals

“Our attentions are now fully focused on the Coppa Italia final on 21 May, because it would be the first time a team completed an Italian double in two successive seasons. Only then will we be able to analyse this season in full. Next season we’ll have the opportunity to go beyond history and achieve legendary status with a sixth Scudetto.”

Gigi Buffon

“Like last time I was sat here talking about Gigi, what I would like to highlight, besides the objective statistics testifying to what a world-class player he is, are his personal qualities. It's been a real privilege for me to have had Gigi as the captain of Juventus over these years. Captain of Juventus and captain of Italy – not because he wears the armband but because he stands up to be counted. He's a man who really makes the difference both on and off the field of play.

“Last time I was here I expressed my wish that Gigi would be handed the maximum individual recognition that exists in the game: the Ballon d’Or. It clearly didn’t work out, so now I’ll say I hope they never give it to him and we’ll see what happens!”

Andrea Barzagli

“As for Andrea, I've often joked with him that he's been the best signing we've made. I can only emphasise that once again today. Andrea is another great professional and a reserved character who deserves way more credit than he gets, partly because of his position and partly due to his character.

“Knowing him, I don't think he minds not being in the limelight but he definitely deserves a lot more recognition. I think he's up there with the best defenders of his age. People like Thiago Silva, Gerard Pique and John Terry – I put Andrea in the same bracket as them. So the fact that he's spent the last five years and will spend the next two with us gives us reason to feel extremely proud.”
