A look back at the month of September

With five wins out of six matches, the month of September was one to remember for the Bianconeri. Let's take a look back before we turn the calendar!

September began with a 3-0 win over Chievo Verona, an own-goal from Perparim Hetemaj, and goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala gave Juventus a comfortable win on Wojciech Szczesny’s debut.

Whilst Juve’s Champions League return didn’t go to plan as they were humbled at the Camp Nou by Barcelona, they didn’t let it affect them and made an immediate comeback away to Sassuolo. Paulo Dybala stole the show with a simply sensational performance, La Joya scoring his second hat-trick of the season in a 3-1 win.

Next up was Fiorentina, and in a tricky Wednesday night encounter Juventus were made to wait for the breakthrough. Eventually it came when Mario Mandzukic scored with a diving header at the far post, this after the visitors had a man sent off was enough to earn the Old Lady a 1-0 win and three valuable points.

Just three days later the Bianconeri were already back in action in the Turin Derby. However, Juve’s cross town neighbours were swept aside as Juventus put in a dominating display. Dybala opened the scoring, and shortly after Torino were reduced to 10 men for committing a second bookable offence. From there Miralem Pjanic netted before half-time, and after the break Alex Sandro rose highest from a corner to nod home a goal, finally Dybala was again on hand to score another as Juve ran out 4-0 winners.

The final game in September was Juventus’ first Champions League home match of the season against Greek champions, Olympiacos. The visitors initially proved tough to break down but the Bianconeri eventually found their way through when Gonzalo Higuain, a second half substitute, instinctively slotted the ball into the back of the net. Mandzukic was in the right place to capitalise from a defensive error to give La Vecchia Signora a 2-0 win.

After a successful September, let’s hope for more of the same in October!
