Massimiliano Allegri pinpointed a lack of mental intensity as the main reason for Juve's defeat at Roma on Sunday night.

The Bianconeri made a strong start at the Olimpico and took the lead through Mario Lemina, before allowing the hosts back into the game.

Speaking after the match, the coach said he felt his side's focus had dropped off in the second half leading to uncharacteristic mistakes.

“Today's defeat should be a wake-up call to us," he began. "It's a shame because we wanted wrap up the Scudetto tonight but considering the run of fixtures we've had it's no surprise it should go down to the wire.

“We played very well in the first half but we moved the ball about less quickly after the break and were less aggressive defensively.

“We allowed Roma to play the ball forward at times, like when they scored. Roma have lots of skilful players and if you give them time and space they can hurt you.”

Allegri then called for his team to keep their cool and get going again – with everything still to play for.

“We must stay calm and get straight back into gear again. There's no need to panic just because we've lost a game.

“You win the title at the end of the season and we've had a tricky fixture list so it's no surprise that we haven't put it to bed yet. Today was further proof of the fact that to win the Scudetto you need to work for it to the end.

“It's not like Juve to concede goals like the ones we let in tonight or against Atalanta – we don't do that when we're fully focused. But watching training yesterday I had a sneaking suspicion we might not be totally on the ball.

“In any case, we're a great team and we've got what it takes to go all the way in every competition.”
