Marotta: “We’ve fought hard and stuck together”

Giuseppe Marotta was full of praise for Juventus after the Bianconeri secured a sixth straight Scudetto triumph with victory against Crotone on Sunday.

“We’ve fought hard and stuck together – players, coach and club,” said Marotta after the final whistle. “Aside from our motivation and the strength of our club, we’ve been able to achieve this extraordinary feat because of the human factor and the cohesion between the various sections of this club. That’s what’s led us to this incredible achievement.”

Marotta believes the future looks rosy for Juventus.

“As the results come, so the brand strengthens,” he said. “We’ve been able to increase revenues and that’s allowed us to dip into the market and bring in top-quality players to bolster the sporting side of the club. We now have a European-level squad.

“I think the right mix is to go for both established, successful players and young talents that have the potential to grow into top players. Juve is the ideal place to develop because of the values the club is able to impart. When a new player arrives, they want to emulate top players like [Gigi] Buffon, [Giorgio] Chiellini and [Leonardo] Bonucci. I am a great believer in hard work and that is a very important part of this success. I believe in our young players too.

“Let’s enjoy this successful period and look to the future with optimism and calm. Thanks to the foresight of Andrea Agnelli, Juventus have placed great importance on skills and delegation. We have a successful model and within that every has the autonomy to use their own skills. I think that is one of the most successful elements of the club, as well as the economic side of things, which is important too.”

Marotta went on to laud Agnelli’s leadership at the club.

“It’s not easy to be the president of a business, a social phenomenon and a sports club, with all the fan sentiment attached,” he said. “Andrea Agnelli is doing just that and I think the most important thing is his tenacity and the fact that he conveys the very essence of what Juventus is all about – striving for victory until the end in every competition we take part in.”
