Juventus were made to fight tooth and nail against Cagliari but nevertheless head into the winter break boosted by a precious victory.

“We adapted to a difficult match against an excellent Cagliari side,” commented a pleased Massimiliano Allegri. “We weren’t quick in reacting to the second ball and despite playing well in the first half, we got caught out on the counter.

“The team fought hard in the second half. After we made it 1-0, we could have been more careful but the important thing is we won, staying on Napoli’s tail and breaking away from Roma and Inter. The lads have done their job in this last period; they deserve a holiday and a rest.”

The Bianconeri’s ability to grit their teeth and eke out results in matches like against Cagliari is the secret to their recent success.

“There’s a will to win and move forwards ingrained in the club’s DNA,” the head coach continued. “Now we have to pursue our seventh league title, fourth Coppa Italia and another Champions League final, hopefully winning it this time.

“All this is possible thanks to the amazing effort put in by everybody because running the extra yard really does make a difference in games.”
