Juventus Women had their first league defeat of the season inflicted upon them by Milan Women, and despite the Bianconere putting in a strong first half performance, the home side upped their game in the second to win 3-0 in Varese.

Rita Guarino's girls started the game on the front foot, going close when Eniola Aluko's shot was just tipped away by Milan keeper, Maria Korenciova after 13 minutes. On the half-hour mark Juve went even closer as they rattled the crossbar with a fine strike from Benedetta Glionna.

The Bianconere were very much in the ascendancy and Barabara Bonansea had a chance in the dying seconds of the half to give Juve the lead but the Slovakian keeper, Korenciova was alert to deny her.

Minutes after the restart, substitute Aurora Galli came inches from giving Juventus the lead from Bonansea's cross as her strike rebounded off the post and back out.

However, the tide soon turned as Milan went in front when Thaisa Moreno hit an unstoppable shot from distance that left Laura Giuliani in the Juve goal with no chance. 10 minutes later and Milan doubled their lead, as Valentina Giacinti struck home after some good build-up play from the hosts. Milan then made the result safe when Daniela Sabatino finished off a team move to make it 3-0.

Juventus Women will now look to bounce back when they host Pink Sport Time Bari on the weekend of 17 November at Vinovo.

REACTION FROM THE COACH

"We should have scored first, given that we had the opportunities - commented Rita Guarino at the end of the match. - This ultimately decided the match, as after we conceded we were not able to react, and we allowed to Milan to dominate the game from there. To drop these points is a blow because between us and them there is not a huge gap. We must find the right way to respond and play the way we know how."
