Chelsea Women vs Juventus Women: Match Preview

After their opening game against Arsenal Women on Sunday afternoon, Juventus Women will be looking to move on from the result get back into the groove against Chelsea Women.

Here is a reminder of the squad named by Rita Guarino for the London friendlies.

A CLOSER LOOK AT CHELSEA WOMEN

Founded 26 years ago in 1992, Chelsea Women are the current holders of the Women's Super League, having remarkably won the league unbeaten last season, finishing six points ahead of Manchester City. In addition to winning the league they were also double winners, lifting the FA Women's Cup, beating Arsenal 3-1 at Wembley.

The team play at Kingsmeadow in Kingsmeadow upon Thames, where English League One side, AFC Wimbledon also play their home matches. Having moved their last season, the stadium holds a capacity of 4,850.

Chelsea Women are managed by Emma Hayes, who has been in the role since August 2012. Under her guidance Chelsea have won two league and cup doubles, winning both the Super League and FA Cup last season and in 2014-15.

Last season Chelsea reached the Champions League semi-finals, but were beaten by Wolfsburg 1-5 on aggregate. It will prove to be a good test for Rita Guarino's girls, who could potentially face Chelsea Women at some point in this season's Women's Champions League.

IMMEDIATE RETURN FOR ALUKO

Juventus Women's first signing of the summer, Eniola Aluko joined the Bianconere from Chelsea Women, having spent eight years in total there over two spells.

First joining from Charlton Athletic in 2007, Aluko didn't spend too long in West London before heading for a spell in the United States, and then eventually coming back to the club in 2012. It was in her second-time round at the club that Aluko really began to excel.

Aluko was part of the Chelsea team to win two league and cup doubles in 2014-15 and in her last season in 2017-18. This came with personal accolades too as Aluko was named Chelsea player of the year in 2015, and finished the 2015-16 season as the league's top scorer.

It's sure to be a sentimental return to her former stomping ground for the over-100 capped England international.
