Not many teams can go to the Stadio Artemio Franchi and get the better of a lively, highly motivated Fiorentina side. Juve did, scoring three unanswered goals, and Massimiliano Allegri was understandably pleased with his team's display.
“We have a team of top players with great character,” the coach began in the wake of Saturday's 3-0 success. “To win games, you have to be prepared to go the extra yard, earn an extra inch. You must have the humility to match your opponents physically - and my players do all that.
“We were playing at a stadium that was really up for this game – this is an important match for the entire city. I asked my players to stay focused and compact and they did that really well.
“We let them have the ball for ten minutes or so in the second half but we managed to defend well. We had chances of our own too and could have gone 2-0 up earlier than we did.
"My team played well. They're starting to click now and we're moving the ball around better. We have some great players up front – we just need to play the ball into the space they create.”
Juan Cuadrado impressed in an unfamiliar role on the right of a three-man midfield.
“It's an option we might use again in future because he's a dynamic player. In that position you need to be able to run both infield and out wide and that's something Juan is good at.”
