Blaise Matuidi displayed all of his usual enterprise and grit as he made his first appearance of the season at Allianz Stadium in Juventus' 2-0 win over Lazio.
"Lazio are always a tough team to face," said the Frenchman after the final whistle. "They’re well-organised but I think in the end we deserved the win. We weren’t perfect, but the most important thing was to get three points against a direct rival."
Matuidi also spoke of his satisfaction with Juventus’ 100% start to the season.
"It’s great that we’ve won our first two games," he said. "Some excellent new players have come in but we still need to get to know each other so it’s even more important that we are able to get the wins at this stage."
The midfielder had a shorter pre-season than his team-mates this year following a triumphant World Cup campaign in Russia, but Matuidi is still riding high after clinching the ultimate prize.
"I feel great and I’ve prepared well," he said. "Obviously I rested up a bit on holiday, but I got back into training right away – I’m still on top of the world after winning the World Cup. It was a wonderful tournament but now I’m back at Juve, we have important objectives and I want to work hard to help the team achieve them."
