It’s a season of Black and White victory in the Derby Della Mole!

Alex Sandro’s third goal of the season coupled with another resolute defensive effort at the back sealed a hard-fought 1-0 win for the Bianconeri over Torino at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.

Playing in a rare 12.30PM CET kick-off, it was a cagey opening to the match and the Bianconeri were forced to switch up the game plan as an early knock to forward Gonzalo Higuain forced the Argentine off less than 15 minutes into the match with Federico Bernardeschi replacing him.

The Bianconeri came close in the 20th minute as Douglas Costa worked his way to the endline sending a cross into the box that was eventually volleyed on goal by Kwadwo Asamoah only to see his effort cleared off the line.

Juventus would take a massive lead just after the half-hour mark as substitute Bernardeschi jinked his way past a defender before sending in a driven cross that was slammed home by Alex Sandro from just a couple yards out.

The 33rd-minute goal was the Brazilian’s third in Serie A this season and second in his last three league matches. The assist for Bernardeschi continued his hot form in the league as it’s now five straight Serie A appearances with a goal or an assist for the summer signing.

In the second half, Juventus continued to push forward, but stayed pragmatic looking to protect the lead. Mid-way through the second half, Paulo Dybala made his return to the field for Juventus replacing Douglas Costa and he nearly scored just minutes after. Alex Sandro sent in a cross for La Joya in the 70th minute but the Argentine couldn’t quite direct the effort on goal.

The Bianconeri were able to seal out the last 20 minutes of the match to confirm an all-important 1-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico. It’s a sixth-straight clean sheet in Serie A for the Bianconeri who, at least temporarily, take back the top spot in Serie A depending on Napoli’s result against SPAL later on Sunday.

It’ll be a full seven days off for the Bianconeri for the first time since the winter break before returning to Allianz Stadium to face Atalanta in Serie A next Sunday afternoon, 25 February.
